Donate or Fundraise for Rwanda Action

Help us to bring positive change to some of the most disadvantaged people in the world

How you can help

In Rwanda a high proportion of people live in extreme poverty. Any donation you are able to make, however small, helps us to relieve that poverty and provide hope and opportunity in the districts of Nyamasheke and Rusizi. Regular donations are particularly valuable because they enable us to provide longer term support.

You can support Rwanda Action via JustGiving or use PayPal for single or regular donations. We are very grateful for your valuable support which helps empower communities to reduce poverty.

Please do contact us if you would like to hear more about opportunities to make a difference.

Training and Equipping Enterprise Groups

Your support can empower young people to gain skills and create their own businesses. Enabling income generation is the most sustainable way to reduce poverty in communities. Please consider supporting young people who are keen to work!

Community Tree Nurseries – supporting livelihoods and the environment

Rwanda Action supports the maintenance of community tree nurseries in southwest Rwanda to provide tree seedlings, which are vital for people struggling to make a living on small plots of land.

Trees help people to become more self-sufficient through use and sale of their products - timber, firewood and fruit - as well as soil improvement, better crops and health.

Supporting the tree nurseries can also contribute to mitigating your carbon footprint.

Community tree nurseries in Rwanda

Each tree nursery produces around 30,000 tree seedlings each year.

We are currently fundraising for the creation of 5 nurseries in 2025.

The tree nurseries are requested by community members, who then provide the manual work in building the tree nurseries, transport of manure, transplant seedlings, water and keep an eye on seedlings as they grow. Rwanda Action provides funds to purchase materials such as seeds, transplanting pots, manure and watering cans.

Most tree seedlings are distributed free of charge to people in the community. Some grafted fruit trees are charged. The trees are planted on farmer’s smallholdings, roadsides and community woodlots to provide building timber, firewood, fruit to combat malnutrition, soil conservation and income. There are many other direct and indirect benefits from planting trees.

You can support growing trees in Rwanda here.

Thank you for your generous support.

Rwanda Action's Sponsorship Programme

Making a regular donation can help support the children and young people in our disability programme. Please read the following to learn about Rwanda Action's sponsorship programme and do not hesitate to contact us for more information.

How long is my Sponsorship?

There is no set sponsorship period or commitment, although generally sponsors tend to sponsor for a period of three years.

Can I terminate my Sponsorship?

Of course. We understand that circumstances may change, and you can cancel your sponsorship at any time, although we would appreciate you letting us know so we can plan budgets).

How much of my sponsorship money will go to the Alivera Project?

100% of your donation under the sponsorship programme will be spent on the Alivera Project at two of our sites and in communtiies. The Alivera Centre and the Alivera Village support children and young adults living with disability in education, training and work experience. Support is needed for a variety of needs, e.g. educational supplies, training materials, paying for sign language teachers, parents' training, food to supplement what is grown on site, health treatments and medicines).

What feedback and information can I expect?

You will receive three newsletters each year, containing updates and photos from the staff of the Alivera Project, so that you can see how individuals benefit from the support you give via the sponsorship programme.

Can I send a gift to individuals under the sponsorship programme?

Our team in Rwanda asks that sponsors do not send individual gifts as this may cause jealousy. Gifts may also be unsuitable for reasons not known to the sponsor. If you would like to donate a gift, we ask that you instead make a donation towards the overall project so that we may extend this help to more children and young adults living with disabilities.

Will I be able to access information through social media?

Whilst we want to keep everyone up to date on our activities via social media, our legal and safeguarding obligations to our beneficiaries inform everything that we do. We will post news stories about The Alivera Project on social media from time to time, where appropriate, but we will not identify individuals other than staff.

Under the terms of the sponsorship, sponsors should refrain from posting photos of beneficiaries or staff of Rwanda Action. This is to respect privacy and to ensure the safety and security of all involved in the Alivera Project.

How to fundraise for Rwanda Action

Fundraising for Rwanda Action can be an exciting and rewarding way to make a difference.

Become a Craft Agent

We are keen to recruit people to sell craft made at the Alivera Village for young people living with disability, in their local community at craft fairs, church/school fetes and so on.

The craft workshops produce wonderful basketwork, aprons, decorations and cards, which sell extremely well in UK, especially in the run-up to Christmas. The proceeds provide the craftswomen with a living wage and the means to develop their business.
